Here’s what’s coming up for OCHS.

May 12th is the last day to order and pay for roses.

May 18th is all work due for seniors. That means all labs must be made up and contacts ratified. Also seniors must be on “good standing” to participate in the ceremony.

May 19th is the last day to pick music and a partner to walk with.

The Waiting Game

Procrastination. The mere sight of this occurring is enough to send both teachers and parents into a homicidal frenzy. But are all their fears unfounded? Procrastination may yet have some uses in today’s grade book.

While the act of procrastinating itself is a lack of motivation, it could trigger motivation near the point of no return in the world of homework. If a student has three hours until they have to turn in their paper which has a significant weight on their academic future, they will find a way. Dire situations bring out a student’s creative side, gaining them sudden inspiration on exactly what they want to do. The fear of one’s parents and being grounded hard enough to never see the light of day again will also free up brain usage. Fear is a time honored tradition used by all from tyrannical dictators down to schoolyard bullies. People use it to get what they want, and one way or another it will create your projects that you “forgot” about.

Living on your own

Submitted by seth on Tue, 2006-05-02 08:50.

It’s almost the end of the year and time for seniors to graduate and start their new lives as adults.

Are you planning on moving out of the house?  (Tell us your plans at this poll.) Well if you are there are a few things that can make your transition a little smoother.         There are many things that when moving out of the house people tend to forget. First things first make sure that you get ALL of your stuff because there is no saying what your family might do with it. For example, when I moved out of the house I left a lot of my less important things at my house. Well when my father decided to move all of my less important stuff didn’t make it, and well it’s something that could be avoided by simply taking it.

Music and How in Affects your mood

Submitted by seth on Mon, 2006-05-01 10:32.

    Music is a wonderful thing.

Whether you like classical, heavy metal or anything in-between I’m sure that almost every day you listen to some sort of music. Generally, the type of music you start the day off with is the type of mood you will have the rest of the day, says Linda Rittner, a former teacher of mine.

For example if you decide to listen to heavy metal in the morning it could very well make you awake and energetic, but possible a little angry as well. Some people such as myself listen to calming music in traffic such as Jack Johnson to keep a level mood. Other people have different reactions to music, such as Amanda A. gets angry when she listens to rap.

PROM!

Submitted by melissa on Fri, 2006-04-14 11:20.
This story was co-authored by Angie.              Olde Columbine High School is having Prom. May 6th is the night it is all going down. The dance starts at 8:30 p.m. and will end roughly around 11:30 p.m. The dance will be hosted in the Commons area over at CDC. It will cost $10 if you go alone and $15 for couples. The prom committee ask that you dress nice for this occasion. Our theme this year is Midnight Stroll so the surroundings will be in a darker color. Our glasses will be what’s called a Hurricane Glass with a picture as well as some writing. Come prepared to dance and have fun because there will be a DJ. When I asked Juan R. if he was going to prom he said “yes, because of the DJ being there.”
