CSAP Experience
Submitted by melissa on Mon, 2006-03-20 11:28. Editor's Note: Melissa is taking the Colorado State Assessment Program tests over four days this week and next. Periodically, she will be writing to share her experiences with the tests. For the past two days at OCHS 9th and 10th graders have been taking CSAP and it just so happens to be that I am in the 10th grade. It kind of sucks to take such long tests but when you think about how important it is to our school it don’t seem that bad really. Even though the tests are boring and very tiring it is still important to do your best. The worse part of the test was Science just because I am not a Science type of girl.
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!?!?!
Submitted by Michael on Fri, 2006-03-17 12:09. Poor sweet football season. Just about every guy I know is going insane waiting for the football season to start. Sad part is, even after it starts it's boring because it's only pre-season and no one makes bets and crys during the pre-season. It's really sad when you and a couple of your friends start playing football in class and it's also a big hassle for the teachers because then they have to suspend you and fill out all kinds of paper work. So, needless to say, I think everyone is ready for football season wether you like it or not.
CSAP-ed
Submitted by Michael on Fri, 2006-03-17 11:26. Editor's Note: Michael is taking the Colorado State Assessment Program tests over four days this week and next. Periodically, he will be writing to share his experiences with the tests. Day 1Every year that I can remember taking CSAP, you haven't been able to bring music of any kind. This really doesn't make any sense to me, because it's not like some 5th grader is going to program a CD that has answers and formulas for math. This stuff gets really easy after taking it for nine years but this year they have changed up the rules. We are given way too much time for each section. Everyone in the room I was in was finishing their particular section very early and then we just had to sit there. We only have two options, read...or don't read.
Insurance Prices For Teens Unfair
Submitted by Michael on Mon, 2006-03-13 11:38. Listen to the podcast of this story. Being a teen male has its ups and its downs but nothing is more of a down then trying to get, keep, and maintain a good car that doesn’t keep you broke for your entire high school career. I have been doing research on insurance for a car and how males' insurance differs from females' insurance via insurance company websites. I have tried to get insurance quotes from different companies. I made everything the same as far as coverage, make and model, and age of the teenager. The only thing that differed between the two quotes that I got from each company was the gender of the student applying for the insurance quote.
Support Your School
Submitted by melissa on Fri, 2006-02-24 11:58. OCHS' Leadership class has a great idea to come out with sweat pants and sweat shirts to support our school. According to Sami M., right now they have 6 different designs and logos to choose from, so it is safe to say that not everything is ready. They are thinking of just letting the students pick what design they want out of the six. The class is hoping to get them ready before our graduation. They are still not sure on how much they will cost. They want to do this so more people know about OCHS. I’ll keep you updated so you know when they will be ready for purchase.
Our very own Tinker at OCHS
Submitted by melissa on Fri, 2006-02-24 11:57. Listen to the podcast of this story. Education was always important to Erika Tinker. Both of her parents were teachers. So was her grandmother. And brother, making for a family full of teachers. That’s one of many reasons why Tinker is now our school’s counselor. When she was in the 3rd grade, Tinker’s parents got a job teaching overseas in Liberia, West Africa. Her family sold everything to go so her parents could teach there. She was the only American student in her class.
Ad Space? School Bus
Submitted by budtheadmin on Fri, 2006-02-17 11:41. I guess I missed this story when it broke in the Longmont paper last year, but I just saw a sign on a school bus that was parked in front of the school that said that there was ad space available to rent on the bus. According to the sign, the space sells for $10 a square foot. Seems pretty affordable. I've requested more information and will file a follow up report as soon as I receive a response.
Being alone on Valentine's Day
Submitted by melissa on Mon, 2006-02-13 22:10. Today is Valentine's Day, but not everyone has a loved one to spend it with. How is it to be alone? Well I asked 2 students here at OCHS that happen to be single how it is to spend Valentines Day alone. Dallas T. said “that he don’t really pay attention, never really knows when it’s Valentines Day. Sometimes it sucks but no worries about buying presents.”“It sucks being alone on Valentine's Day. I want to be with someone but too much worries with buying the perfect gifts and emotions. No worries about making someone else happy. Being alone sucks and you get no presents when you don’t have a Valentine date. There is no one there to make you happy,” said Angie K. For those of you that have someone to spend Valentine's Day with cherish, and be happy you are not alone. I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day.
A Google Here, A Google There
Submitted by Bluelilly1928 on Fri, 2006-02-03 12:33. You may all know the search site Google, but do you know about the other google sites that are out there? There are more then one and each is different then the next. Most are parodies, but some are actually sponsored by the real Google. Other google-like sites include Backwards Google or Elgoog, a Google that has every thing backwards even the search result is backwards. This one is enough to make you get a head-ache from just looking at it.
