Sollicitus: one of the greats…well not yet but in a few years you never know. In this Longmont based band, when you have an inseparable four piece with in your face bass, (Jimmy) crushing guitar riffs, (Tyler) and a variety of vocal styles (Luke) and a drummer that’s a machine (Kean). You know that the metal scene is not dead. I took some time out of there busy schedules to ask them some questions on being a local band.
OldeSchoolNews: How hard is it to make it in a small town like
SO: Harder then it seems. ”its mission impossible when people don’t like your music”. Myspace is helping a little bit thou so is kbpi.
OSN: How long did it take you to record your demo?
SO: One day six hours in and out of the power outage. It also took six hours to produce.
OSN: How long did it take you guys to get out to some gigs?
SO: Before we expected, thanks to another local band Quick Victim.
OSN: Who are your main influences?
SO: Quick Victim, rock & roll in general & the every day bullcrap in life.
OSN: What got you guys together?
SO: Friendship “me and Luke were pretty much the band for a while that’s when we wrote poise” says Jimmy, then we picked up Ty and Kean and started rippin’ it up.
OSN: How is the writing process of the music and lyrics?
SO: Different every time, slow pace, “it’s a never ending force of nature.”
OSN: For the time you’ve been together I’m sure you’ve had your scuffles/fights how do you cope/solve?
SO: Just get away and miss it for a day, sometimes we just argue it out it helps every once in a while.
OSN: What would you do if one of your pieces of equipment got jacked?
SO:
OSN: How long have you been playing music?
SO: Jimmy: me Kean and Tyler have been playing for five years (not together) and Luke for two years.
OSN: How do you feel about the posers that claim to be a metal band and just adds up to be a bunch of emo kids that are just there to show off there pretty hair?
SO: Jimmy: “listen to sons of plunder from Disturbed”. They help us write good music because all they do is “model” and act like they can play music.
OSN: Luke I know you weren’t a “singer” before Sollicitus, so what did you do to prep your “pipes” for a career in singing?
SO: “Screaming at my wind shield.”
OSN: What would you say is the hardest thing about being a local band?
SO: “Being a local band period,” says
OSN: What song do you recommend to listen to first?
SO: Kick in the teeth. “Because it has a good message for the time.”
Thanks for doing this guys I appreciate it a lot. I hope all you students listen. If you’d like to listen to music from Sollicitus, check out their MySpace page.
