    OCHS staff and students have become curious and concerned due to an upcoming technology known as nano wiring that can possibly take place within the next twenty years. Nano wiring is a future effort to insert tiny bundles of nano wiring thinner than the lines on a piece of paper into the blood vessels of our brains and then use them to sense nerve impulses of neurons right beside these blood vessels. This new interaction between ourselves and the world around us will create many possibilities.  
    According to 22^nd Century, a new PBS show, these wires could “stimulate the senses directly - creating visual perceptions, auditory perceptions, movements, and feelings. Deep brain stimulation could create the ultimate virtual reality.  Not to mention, direct communication between man and machine or human brain to human brain could become a real possibility.”   

This research is already being done in animals, proving that direct communication with the deep recesses of the mind is not too far fetched. Even though this research is not widely known about, the people that do know about it seem to be very concerned or enthused intensely about the subject.

Fabian F. of Olde Columbine High School is one of the concerned. “This is seriously not a good idea, this new technology is going to take away all our individuality and also take away the beauty to struggle for what we want to be and learn. Everybody will be everybody else with one major network monitoring and possibly controlling our consciousness.”

Another student of OCHS, Paul M., is one of the enthused and a bit more excited.  He said “It’s a great advancement in technology that will help us all get closer together and create peace.” He also said, "I am very interested to see what happens, I’m sure it will be a creative time in life.”

I also interviewed a Longmont resident by the name of Rudy Salas, who had a very profound and interesting view on the subject. I actually spoke with him for quite a while, just exchanging thoughts on the manner.

He said “If this goes through it will truly be the mark of the beast and we should really think about what is going on and what were doing.”  He said this in reference to the last chapter of the Bible and in it, it speaks of a coming of the Devil in which everybody must get the mark of the beast some were on our body’s, and if not will be deprived of all humanity and its resources, being fully alienated in the hands of the Devil.

Nano wiring is definitely a goal being aimed for in the benefit of our fellow man, but is that the outcome it will have on our planet and consciousness. Will this technology be friend or foe? We’ll soon find out more within the near future.
