Scribble Jam

Submitted by JesusH on Mon, 2007-03-12 11:11.

Scribble Jam: According to Scribble magazine is the biggest hip hop event in the world, and to some people is a long anticipated three day event that is held annually every August 9-12 in Cincinnati, Ohio, by its founder, DJ Mr. Dibbs.  This event consist of the five elements of hip hop.  These are: turntablism, break dancing, beat boxing, graffiti writing and freestyling. Each one of the elements is then competed in for a grand prize of $10,000.

Each one of the battles is organized a little differently than the other, for instance the DJ battles are usually prerehearsed and the skills that are examined are mostly the complexity of their scratching and beat juggling, while the MC freestyle battles are just that, freestyle no rehearsals just the test to see who has the most bashing rhymes and punch lines against their opponents within two rounds in thirty second intervals.

Depo-Provera

Depo-Provera is a popularly used birth control method, possibly because of it's advantages and accuracy. There are also many downfalls though.

Depo prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation. That way there is no egg for sperm to fertilize. Your body naturally builds a uterine lining to prepare for pregnancy, and then releases it when not pregnant (a period). There is generally no lining, or very little when on Depo. So, no lining or egg to be released.

The biggest known advantage is it's 99.7% accurate at preventing pregnancy. According to Wikipedia, there is no worry of detection or forgetting it because it is injected every three months. Usually after the second shot; no periods occur, and there is minimal drug interactions. This shot also decreases the risk of many things including: endometrial cancer by 80%, PID, functional ovarian cysts, uterine fibrosis, ovulation pain, iron deficiency anemia, and seizures.

Pit bulls

Submitted by andreag on Wed, 2007-02-14 12:18.

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) was originally bred in the British Isles for bull baiting. According to information from Bad Rap, a California pit bull advocacy group, bull baiting was pit bulls "rounding" up bulls for an audience's entertainment. This became illegal in 1835, and that's when the idea of dog fighting began. The idea was to breed them specifically to be aggressive towards other animals, but nice to humans. This was so the humans wouldn't get bit when pulling the dogs off of each other.

Take it to the Track

Submitted by chrissy on Tue, 2007-02-13 12:17.

Teenagers today are obsessed with the way their cars look, sound, and run. They want their cars to be the “fliest,” says Ari S., an OCHS sophomore. They want their car’s stereo system to go boom. The thing is that that’s not the problem.

Street racing is the problem. Street racing is when you go and race your cars illegally. According to Tony S., the president of the Career Development Center’s race team, Triple Threat Racing, “Street racing is immature, irresponsible, and flat out stupid.”  If you have the “need for speed,” said Ed Day, an automotive teacher at CDC, take it to the track.

Longmont Local Band: Sollicitus

Sollicitus: one of the greats…well not yet but in a few years you never know. In this Longmont based band, when you have an inseparable four piece with in your face bass, (Jimmy) crushing guitar riffs, (Tyler) and a variety of vocal styles (Luke) and a drummer that’s a machine (Kean). You know that the metal scene is not dead. I took some time out of there busy schedules to ask them some questions on being a local band.

Intimate Relationships

Submitted by Jazmine on Mon, 2006-11-13 12:01.

There are many different kinds of relationships; there are close friend relationships, love relationships, relationships with your family, along with many more. Specifically, I’m talking about an intimate relationship meaning a relationship involving not only physical but emotional intimacy. Many people of different ages may experience a relationship like this and may have different opinions of what makes it a good relationship.
Danna T., a sophomore at OCHS has been in a relationship with her boyfriend for almost three years. I interviewed Danna asking her, “What does it take to have a good intimate relationship?” She replied, “It takes a strong trust foundation to have a good intimate relationship. It also takes things like sharing the same interests so that you can both do what you want and both of you will enjoy it.”
I then interviewed Pam Long a student services secretary at OCHS. I asked her, “What does it take to have a good intimate relationship?” She then said, “Trust and communication play a huge part in an intimate relationship. Generally caring and loving the person is also important. Also balance as in when you’re in an intimate relationship you don’t spend all your time with your intimate one and you have other relationships. I also asked Pam Long, “What is the most important thing in an intimate relationship?”
She said, “The number one thing is communication, you can talk to your intimate one and you can tell each other pretty much anything but maybe not everything. Also if you can communicate you can articulate a problem the two of you have and come to a solution that you both agree on.”

My Hunt

My alarm clock started ringing at three-thirty in the morning.  I figured that I had better get up to go pick up the guys, and head to our hunting spot.  I got up and dressed from head to toe in pure camouflage.  I was up all night loading the truck with my decoys, my gun and all of my other hunting supplies.  I walk out to the truck and the cold morning air touches my face and hands.  The smell of winter fills the air, and my neighborhood is as quiet as Christmas Eve.

youm might want to close your eyes..........

In the movie the Hills Have Eyes; I thought it had a very good story line. A tiny village of coal miners and there families, were getting pushed out of village by the government. The government wanted to do nuclear atomic bomb testing in there Nevada desert. Of course it would affect the health and appearance of the miners and their families. The coal miners didn’t want to leave they had developed a life and a home for them and their families.

Altering the Akelei

Submitted by Mr. Evil Eyes on Mon, 2006-05-22 11:19.

Fiction by the author.  Want to see more?  Let him know in the comments.

It’s 5:00 in the morning. There is no sound but that of the air vents regulating the temperature in this den. The mismatched eyes stare at a control that does not move, because it does not want to. Then a high pitched shout fills the room, followed closely by two more. Control is awake, and watching the questioning mismatched eyes. The room is still. Sliding the door open, Control allows the mismatched eyes to burst forth into the darkness. But still there is one final lock before complete freedom. As Control reaches for the opening mechanism, the mismatched eyes grow impatient and lash out at the object, scarring it with its claws. Then the door opens and Akelei is released into the world of men. No one is ready for this but it had to happen, otherwise the basement would be overrun with a foul, overwhelming stench. That is how the Akelei works. Basic needs, basic commands communicated to Control. If Akelei fails to alert Control and goes on without consent, Akelei will be controlled. In a crate. Thus the days are spent in constant repetition, all for the goal of Akelei’s independence. Control fears this day will never come. Like exponential decay, it will never reach zero. But Control’s patience is another equation, much less complex. This relationship between a controller and a pair of mismatched eyes is not a parasitic one as first glance might have you believe. Studies indicate that this is really a symbiosis, each giving the other something in return for something. Clearly the Akelei will receive sustenance and a safe lair, but what Control gains is still a mystery to science. A common theory is that Control gains some measure of happiness from this, but that theory only seems to work in some situations. Most scientists just choose to believe that the two beings were thrust upon each other and must now make the most of it. Adaptation at its finest. One by one the lights dim and are extinguished, casting the room in shadows. Control slides the door closed after calling Akelei inside. The mismatched eyes do not wish to stay in here in the dark, but give up just like every night before. Akelei gives up and seeks her position of vigilance near the entrance.
